About Anthony Hamilton
Anthony Cornelius Hamilton, who goes simply by Anthony Hamilton, was born on January 28, 1971, in Charlotte, North Carolina. He got his musical start in his neighborhood church choir, and then when he was a teenager as a part of his high school choir. In 1993, Anthony Hamilton made the move to New York City to afford himself more opportunities at success. Shortly after, he received a recording contract with Uptown Records, but the company went bankrupt and Hamilton was forced to postpone the release of his debut album. In 1996, Anthony Hamilton released XTC under MCA Records, and though it did not gain the attention that he would have hoped, he later went on tour with D’Angelo as a background vocalist.
His second studio album, Comin’ from Where I’m From, was released in 2003 and went Platinum. The single “Charlene” off the album shot to the #19 slot on the Hot 100 Chart, and he was later nominated for Best Male R&B Vocal Performance at the 2005 Grammy Awards. Two compilation albums followed: Soulife in 2005 and Southern Comfort in 2007, both of which did extremely well on the Hot 200 chart. Without taking a break, Hamilton released The Point of it All in 2008 and Back to Love in 2011.
