Stephanie Mills is a contemporary R&B/soul artist and actress from Brooklyn, New York. As a very young child, Mills sang gospel at her church, and at only nine, she began performing on Broadway. Her rise to fame occurred when she was dubbed “the little girl with the big voice” for her starring role in the Broadway production, The Wiz. Mills’ debut album, Movin’ In The Right Direction, was released in 1974 under Motown Records. In addition to Motown Records, Stephanie has also produced music through MCA, Century Record Label, Casablanca Records, and Interscope.
Stephanie has produced five gold albums during her over twenty year music career. These albums include Whatcha Gonna Do With My Lovin’, Sweet Sensation, Stephanie, If I Were Your Woman, and Home. In addition to her music career and broadway performances, Stephanie also had her own NBC-TV daytime talk show in 1983.
